The mission of the New York Road Runners Foundation is to promote running and physical fitness programs to youth through schools and community centers. They established two programs: Mighty Milers (for elementary school children) and Young Runners (for middle to high school students).

Every class enrolled in Mighty Milers received a poster to track their progress throughout the semester. Each start-up kit also included cones to mark a running course and incentive gifts to reward children for reaching their goals.
